Day Journal, January 17, 2013

Outside: The squirrels are pounding on the windows demanding peanuts!!!!

Pondering: David Bowie's new single, "Where Are We Now". It was released on Tuesday, (in celebration of his 66th birthday), with a new album to follow in March. I have been a huge Bowie fan since I was 18, but I dunno about this song. Maybe it will grow on me, but he really sounds like an old fart straining to hit the notes.

Looking forward to: Having Beep over tomorrow. We are going to make braided bracelets, and try some Danish heart weaving.

Fixating on: Fat. I put on some pounds over the Christmas season. I want them off...now! I am amping up the exercise routine over the next few days. Oh who am I trying to kid, I don't even have an exercise routine. Unless of course walking from my chair to the refrigerator could be considered exercise. Seriously, I am going to start exercising...real soon.

What I need to remember: To take my antibiotics. The tooth is finally being pulled next Friday, so any icky germies lingering, need to be eradicated.

My current project: Making sock critters. They are like sock monkeys, but are not monkeys. I'm not even sure what the one I am making is. It looks like a sock bunny alien or something.
I got a book for Christmas called "Stray Sock Sewing", and this is one of the projects. The idea is to make "critters" from socks. The author suggests starting off small, with baby socks...like taking baby steps I guess. Then you can graduate to making REAL critters, like dogs, cats, zebras and even fish. Why... you may ask! Well, I have to do something with all the stray socks around here now don't I!

Hoping for: Some relief from this nagging headache I have had for two days. It's not severe pain, just a dull constant ache at the base of my skull, and it's making me cranky.

Listening to: Not that new song by the old fart.

Dinner Last Night: Lemon chicken, fried rice, with mushrooms and peppers, steamed bok choy, and sautéed pea pods with almonds. Dessert, a bit of indulgence, Cinnamon Swirl muffins with streusel topping. All homemade of course.

In the kitchen: I have put an old photo of myself on the fridge door. One from my skinnier days, wearing a two piece bathing suit! I am hoping this will encourage me to eat healthier and less. So far, it hasn't worked.

What made me frown/upset/laugh/smile today: A blogging friend lost her two year battle with cancer. She was laid to rest yesterday, on what would have been her 34th birthday.

Grateful for: TENA Ultra Thins. A super thin bladder incontinence pad that works exceptionally well, and doesn't make me feel like I have a rolled up beach towel stuck in my undies.

Photos I'm sharing:

Cheers!

  3. I'm so sorry to hear about your blogging friend. :(

Good luck with the exercise routine. Today, for the first time in weeks, I managed to haul myself downstairs to exercise with my husband. It was very, very non-taxing, but it's a start. Like you, I've put on a few pounds...I officially have one pair of jeans that still fit (sort of).

Love, love the pictures of the nuthatches! And the critter monkeys! Very sweet.

  4. Oh, Karen, I love your journals. This one was quite humorous -- well, not death and not those %&##*% squirrels. Love the photos, too.
    Peace,
    Muff

    I have created monsters!!

    Hi Kim,
Sure go ahead with the post. I find it's a good way to do a post quickly.

    Hi Ms. CP,
I will start exercising real soon...or not ;)

    Hi Muff,
    Thanks.

    Hi Anne,
The sock critters are a challenge for not so nimble fingers. Beep is excited about trying the hearts.

    Hi Mary,
    They are!

    Hi EC,
I don't think exercise will ever be my friend!

    Thanks for stopping by everyone.
